Initially built in 1877 in wood, canvas and brick in the manner of the previous racecourses, the building was completely rebuilt for safety reasons according to the plans of the architect Gustave Gridaine, mostly in metal by the company Fives-Lille. On May 7, 1878, the Parisians discovered this immense construction that could accommodate 6,000 people. The Paris racecourse, also called the Pont de l'Alma racecourse, existed for fifteen years, from 1877 to 1892. The owner of the land did not want to renew the lease.
