Eugène GIRARDET (1853-1907) The return of... - Lot 8 - Steffen’s Enchères Rambouillet
Eugène GIRARDET (1853-1907) The return of the shepherds at dusk Oil on canvas signed 62 x 101 cm Framed, paneled, old restoration Provenance : acquired in the 1920's then by family descent Eugène Girardet was an orientalist painter who evolved during the second half of the 19th century. He was initiated in the workshop of Jean-Léon Gérôme before sailing to the horizons of North Africa where he discovered the oriental luminosities with subtle and warm colors. He traveled several times to the foothills of the Atlas Mountains where our painting is located. This picturesque scene, of which he is the precentor, denotes the Haussmannian Paris of the same period and transports us to a sublimated orient far from the modern agitation.
